The database has been crashing in the last week but I didn't realise that it could be that the database was corrupt. I'm sometimes forgetful enough to leave my databases open overnight when the backup kicks in and cuts the network server connections. Then the FE would puke with the -1517 error you mentioned whenever that particular table was accessed. I ran Database Utilities/Compact & Repair Databases, but the error still persists.
